Schedule: Saturday (with occasional evenings or weekends for programs and events)

Pay scale: $19-22/hr hourly

About Corita Art Center (CAC):  

Corita Art Center preserves and promotes Corita Kent’s art, teaching, and passion for social justice. Housing the most comprehensive collection of Corita’s serigraphs, watercolors, graphic commissions, and archival materials, Corita Art Center supports exhibition loans and public programs, oversees image and merchandising rights, sells original prints, and serves as a scholarly resource for her life and work.

 

Position Summary  

Corita Art Center is seeking a highly detail-oriented and systems-minded Retail Assistant to support the daily operations of our growing retail program. This position plays a helpful role in managing inventory and ensuring excellent customer service both digitally and onsite.

The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, comfortable with spreadsheets and digital systems, and excited about the intersection of art, retail, and mission-driven work. Experience or interest in product development and merchandising is a strong plus.

Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions)  

E-Commerce and Inventory Management

  • Manage online store inventory, ensuring accurate product listings, pricing, descriptions, and availability.
  • Track and reconcile inventory across onsite and online platforms; flag low stock and assist with reorders.
  • Conduct routine inventory counts and maintain clean, organized stock areas.
  • Monitor and respond to customer inquiries related to online purchases in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with product photography, basic copywriting, and uploading new SKUs to the website.

Onsite Retail Support

  • Serve as a welcoming point of contact for visitors in the retail space.
  • Process transactions using the point-of-sale system and maintain accurate daily sales records.
  • Support visual merchandising and seasonal retail displays. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shop and storage areas.
  • Contribute ideas for merchandising strategies aligned with exhibitions, campaigns, and seasonal moments.
  • Assist in preparing materials for wholesale inquiries or museum shop outreach as needed.

Additional Responsibilities  

  • Support retail operations during special events, exhibition openings, and donor gatherings.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to retail reporting and reconciliation.
  • Act as first point of contact for guests visiting Corita Art Center if at front desk  
  • Performs general administrative duties such as filing, copying, running errands, and general data entry as it relates to marketing, e-commerce, and website
  • Completes special projects and basic research as assigned  
  • Completes all other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and skill required for the job

The duties of this position are subject to change and may be modified based on the needs of the business.

Qualifications  

Minimum Education, Training, and Traits:  

  • Relevant retail or e-commerce work experience welcomed
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in retail, commercial gallery, or collections-centered organization required
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with inventory systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinker who is highly organized and possesses strong analytical skills.  
  • Comfortable working in a lean but efficient team
  • Knowledge and understanding of art history, design history, and arts education a plus
  • Highly attentive to detail and able to work collaboratively  
  • Interest in visual art is required

 

Licenses and Certifications:  

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required  
  • Valid work authorization in the U.S.  

Skills and Abilities:  

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office software including: Outlook, Word, Excel  
  • Familiarity with current trends, issues, and best practices in small businesses and non-profits
  • Knowledge of digital communication platforms (social media, email marketing, etc)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Must have excellent attendance and punctuality  
  • Strong organizational skills and analytical skills  
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment  
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically  
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Physical Demands and Work Environment  

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here represent those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.   • Physical Demands:  In the work environment described herein, the position requires good eye/hand coordination and working at a desk, and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time. The position also requires verbal and written conversation with others, standing, climbing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting/moving objects up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision.

  • Work Environment:  The majority of work will be performed in a hybrid model, an at-home environment, with days required at the CAC offices. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Work requires occasional independent travel to and from off-site meetings and events.  Occasional weekend, evening, and night work hours are also required. CAC wants to ensure the health and safety of all workers in the workplace and therefore follows local orders, state regulations, and guidance from government agencies like the CDC, OSHA, EEOC, and local health authorities.  

  • Employees are required to complete a criminal background check and provide at least three work references. This position may interface with the public with all precautions and considerations to address COVID-19. The health and safety of all is our primary goal and consideration. All precautions and protocols will meet LA County requirements.
