Getty Marrow Digital Collections and Research Internship

The Corita Art Center is seeking a Digital Collections and Research Intern to support our ongoing endeavors to preserve and promote the archives and artworks of artist, educator, and social justice advocate, Corita Kent.

The intern will primarily be focused on supporting the Curator/Collections Manager and the Digitization Project Archivist with an ongoing project to digitize, describe, and make accessible the Corita Art Center’s archival materials, including a collection of over 15,000 35mm slides documenting Corita Kent and the Immaculate Heart College during the decades of the 50s and 60s. The intern will also support in the general organization and management of the Corita Art Center’s art and archival collections including ongoing data entry for the organization’s FilemakerPro database and online collections page.

General responsibilities will include: scanning archival materials; assisting with digital image processing; conducting historical research on Corita Kent and the Immaculate Heart College; and reviewing and updating collections data and biographical information.  

Candidates should have an art history background with an interest in archives and library sciences as well as printmaking and/or American Postwar art. Excellent computer and communication skills are required. The internship is a full-time (35 hours/week) position for a consecutive ten-week work period to be arranged by the Intern and the Corita Art Center.  

Eligibility

  • Be of an underrepresented group in visual arts and museum-related professions, including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent.
  • Be currently enrolled undergraduates. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2022. Students who graduated after April 1, 2022, are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.
  • Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County, and  
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a “green card” holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.

Compensation

The internship is a full-time (35 hours/week) position with a salary of $6,400 for a consecutive ten-week work period between June and August. The current internship is planned primarily for on-site work, but occasional remote work may also be assigned.
