This annual outpouring of creativity was the culmination of all Corita had absorbed the previous year – images, phrases, sounds and ideas. As Corita said, “<span style="color: #66b3ff;"><em><span style="color: #3399ff;">t</span><span style="color: #3399ff;"><strong>o create is to relate</strong></span>,</em></span>” and her creations were born of relationships she forged between disparate elements she encountered, placed together on a silkscreen.</p> <p>The beginning of Corita’s process was the accumulation of these elements – the building blocks that would be recast and reconfigured into works of art. She had her students keep “<strong><span style="color: #3399ff;"><em>Sense Journals</em></span></strong>” for capturing and gathering the experiences that they, too, would eventually spin into art.
